For a woman, a dress is much more that a mere piece of clothing. It needs to be comfortable, look nice and be well-fitted. It is an obvious fact that all women do not have the same body type. Thus it should be just as obvious that different women will have different dresses fit them perfectly. One dress could look bad on one woman and great on another. Also, different dresses will be suitable for different situations and events. A dress worn to go to a party would not look good during church or when dining out with friends.

History of the shirt dresses

One of the most popular dresses worn by women is the shirt dress which normally has short sleeves, s shirt collar as well as a button bodice usually attached to the skirt or separated from it by a self belt. Shirt dresses featuring knee-length short skirts started to be worn largely in the 1950‘s.

Shirt dresses nowadays are still popular but except in rare cases, no longer harbor a crinoline. Those are usually worn for work or during church, along with scarves.

Other types of dresses

Another popular type of dress is sheath dress, usually fall right above the knees, are form-fitting and strapless or sleeveless. There are often worn along with oversized pearl jewelry and elbow-length gloves. Also, sheath dresses are known for their versatility and flexibility, thus being suitable to be worn at night.

There is also the sundress, mostly worn during summer and harboring floral prints and bright colors and featuring halter tops. They are perfect when going to the beach or when dining out casually. They however do not look great with accessories.
